Midtown is not the only place that suffers from high amounts of traffic and parking. Downtown is a prime example especially with the new developments. Riverfront is a great place that allows its residents to play and relax, but getting there is a challenge for many. Sure, the ORBT bus system is incredible, tying together many areas of Omaha such as midtown and the crossroads mall. But what about the people in North, South, and far West Omaha? How can the people without a car benefit from the new city amenities that are located in Downtown Omaha?
Along with this, parking is a nightmare. Whenever there is an event even if you have no idea about it, it affects your plans to relax at the Riverfront, or watch a concert at the Steelhouse. Our city would be better without the heavy reliance on cars.
Lastly, less cars on the road mean lower demand for parking garages which means more space for development. The city is limited by allowing space for people to get there via a automobile. Without the demand, there is more room for other projects that will make walkable cities more plausible.
